ARCHEO IN SMART - RECUPERO E FRUIZIONE DELL'AREA ARCHEOLOGICA E DELLA CHIESA DEL PADRE ETERNO - CUP H85I23000180002

Operazione cofinanziata dall’UE a valere sul POR FESR-FSE 2014/2020 della Regione Puglia – Asse VI -Azione 6.7 'Interventi per la valorizzazione e fruizione del patrimonio culturale'

 

Nell'ambito del PIIIL CulturainPuglia 2017-2026 (Piano Strategico della Cultura di Regione Puglia), che individua tra le azioni portanti il grande progetto SMART-in Puglia (Sostegno, Memoria, Arti, Resilienza, Territorio, Ingegno) con l'obiettivo di valorizzare il patrimonio culturale pubblico agevolando la fruizione e l'accessibilità dei luoghi, il Comune di Gravina in Puglia ha candidato un progetto di valorizzazione del sito arecheologico del Padre Eterno che si pone in continuità con gli altri progetti di recupero e valorizzazione previsti nell'area.

L'area archeologica

L'area archeologica si snoda ai piedi del colle di Botromagno lungo il costone della gravina per oltre 1.400 metri. Si tratta di un sito di rilevanza universale che racchiude una stratigrafia storica eccezionale:

  • Preistoria ed Età del Ferro: resti di case-capanne.
  • Epoca Classica (VII - IV sec. a.C.): una vasta necropoli che ha restituito corredi funerari di grande pregio (es. tombe di guerrieri, ceramiche attiche) e un antico quartiere artigianale con fornaci e cave.
  • Età Bizantina e Medievale: insediamenti rupestri, eremi e la splendida Chiesa/Cripta del Padre Eterno (XIII sec.), un tempo ricca di affreschi.

  • Epoca Moderna (XVIII sec.): il grande acquedotto sotterraneo voluto dal Duca Orsini.

Obiettivi di progetto e Azioni

Il progetto prevede la realizzazione di un percorso che consentirà l'accessibilità del sito archeologico e, attraverso l'implementazione delle più recenti tecnologie (ad es. ricostruzioni 3D, postazioni per la realtà virtuale e la realtà aumentata, metaverso e gaming; ologrammi interattivi, ecc) la fruizione dello stesso alla scoperta delle radici rupestri della città. Il progetto prevede anche l'allestimento di un Info-point nei pressi dell'area e delle ARCHEOfficine, laboratori di restauro all'interno del Museo Civico. Il progetto si articola in cinque azioni principali volte a cambiare il volto e la fruibilità del sito:

  1. scavo archeologico e pulizia;
  2. restauro della cripta del Padre Eterno;
  3. accessibilità totale (percorsi e passerelle);
  4. ARCHEOfficine; Allestimenti e Tecnologia "smart".

I lavori verranno realizzati a lotti al fine di garantire la fruibilità del sito rupestre.

Il progetto è stato finanziato per complessivi Euro 1.053.000,00.

ARCHEO IN SMART - RECOVERY AND ENHANCEMENT OF THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL AREA AND THE CHURCH OF THE PADRE ETERNO - CUP H85I23000180002

Operation co-funded by the EU under the Puglia Region POR FESR-FSE 2014/2020 – Axis VI - Action 6.7 'Interventions for the enhancement and enjoyment of cultural heritage'

 

Within the framework of the PIIIL CulturainPuglia 2017-2026 (the Strategic Culture Plan of the Puglia Region) which identifies the major SMART-in Puglia project (Support, Memory, Arts, Resilience, Territory, Ingenuity) as one of its core actions, aiming to enhance public cultural heritage by facilitating the use and accessibility of sites, the Municipality of Gravina in Puglia has submitted a project for the enhancement of the Padre Eterno archaeological site. This initiative builds continuously upon other recovery and enhancement projects planned for the area.

The Archaeological Site

The archaeological area winds along the foot of the Botromagno hill, stretching for over 1,400 meters along the ridge of the gravina (canyon). It is a site of universal significance, encompassing an exceptional historical stratigraphy:

  • Prehistory and the Iron Age: Remains of hut-houses.
  • Classical Period (7th - 4th century BC): A vast necropolis that has yielded grave goods of immense value (e.g., warriors' tombs, Attic pottery), alongside an ancient artisan quarter featuring kilns and quarries.
  • Byzantine and Medieval Periods: Rock-cut (rupestrian) settlements, hermitages, and the splendid Church/Crypt of the Padre Eterno (13th century), which was once richly adorned with frescoes.

  • Modern Era (18th century): The grand underground aqueduct commissioned by Duke Orsini.

Project Objectives & Actions

The project involves creating a visitor pathway that will ensure full accessibility to the archaeological site. By implementing cutting-edge technologies (such as 3D reconstructions, virtual and augmented reality stations, metaverse and gaming experiences, interactive holograms, etc.), the project will allow visitors to explore and discover the city’s rock-cut roots. Additionally, the plan includes setting up an Info-point near the area and establishing the ARCHEOfficine (archaeological workshops), which will serve as restoration laboratories inside the Civic Museum. The project is structured into five main actions designed to transform the site's layout and accessibility:

  1. Archaeological excavation and cleaning;
  2. Restoration of the Padre Eterno crypt;
  3. Total accessibility (pathways and footbridges);
  4. ARCHEOfficine (restoration workshops);
  5. Smart setups and technology.

The works will be carried out in lots/phases in order to guarantee the continued accessibility of the rock-cut site throughout development.
